Senator Heinreich today did appear to say it all: “You’ve given legalistic answers to moral questions.”

When asked by Senator Harris today whether or not she believed in hindsight knowing what she knows now whether the advanced interrogation techniques were immoral she did not answer yes or no despite being asked numerous times.

The Assessment Of Senator John McCain is also noteworthy  (see https://www.mccain.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?p=press-releases&id=9BF25289-D798-47B9-A30D-9494C6022EF8; obtained on 5-9-2018) which included “…However, Ms. Haspel’s role in overseeing the use of torture by Americans is disturbing. Her refusal to acknowledge torture’s immorality is disqualifying. I believe the Senate should exercise its duty of advice and consent and reject this nomination.”

Her confirmation would be a mistake; it would indicate the US approves of torture as defined by the Geneva Conventions in the humble opinion of this author.
