Does A Recent New York Times Article Provide Evidence That Academic Freedom Is Essentially A Myth In The US In 2019?

Does the identified content of the article coupled with the process involved resemble the concept of “Weapons of Mass Destruction” by the US being a false premise to go to essentially war in Iraq in any way? Would the preceding sentence be censored from college classrooms in much the same way the Bill Mahr and Phil Donohue shows were taken off the air in the time period close to the US invasion of Iraq?

Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media published in 1988 book by Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky addresses issues raised above about the mass media.

Are US Universities historically and today functionally an extension of the mass media and/or vice-versa?
