Former US President Jimmy Carter has reportedly said he is willing to travel to Pyongyang to talk about a treaty. He has, according to news reports, told Park Han-shik, a professor of international affairs at the University of Georgia, that “…he would like to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and discuss a peace treaty between the United States and the North, and a complete denuclearisation of North Korea”. The Trump administration would be wise to embrace the Former President’s willingness. The current author actually would like to see at least one additional former living US President also be both actively supportive and actively involved in the process if at all possible to help make the former President Carter’s ideas a reality. Other world leaders and academics that could make up a dream team “peace train” delegation might include Pope Francis, Noam Chomsky, and Mikhail Gorbachev (who like Jimmy Carter is a former Nobel Peace Prize winner). The idea here is to convene a delegation of some of the most effective peace leaders and thinkers on the planet for the good of the world.
The term “Peace Train” in this article is borrowed from Cat Stevens (the former stage name for Yusuf Islam born Steven Demetre Georgiou in 1948), a singer and songwriter who sang “Peace Train”, the title of a song released in 1971 and taken from his album Teaser and the Firecat.
