The Hoffman Report is an informal name for the the identified full name: Independent Review Relating to APA Ethics Guidelines, National Security Interrogations, and Torture (https://www.nappp.org/pdf/APAReport.pdf; obtained on 8-1-2015). It was authored by attorneys David Hoffman, Danielle Carter, Cara Viglucci Lopez, Heather Benzmiller, Ava Guo, Yasir Latifi and Daniel Craig of the law firm, Sidley Austin, LLP.
The author of this article sent the following from his personal e-mail account to the APA Today:
“To The American Psychological Association (APA):
I have been a member in good standing of The American Psychological Association (APA) since 1993. I have finished reading the Hoffman Report released last month. Effective immediately, I resign as a member. Please refund all dues, fees, etc. that I paid to the APA. Due to the specific contents of the Hoffman Report I recommend that the APA dissolve as an organization as soon as possible.
In the 1990’s the APA nominated and then effectively created barriers for Raymond B. Cattell to receive A Lifetime Achievement Award. Later it was revealed that the APA charged members such as myself extra practice-related fees for decades which looked to be necessary for membership on papers sent for membership and membership renewals but later many members such as myself learned that this extra charge was actually a voluntary fee every year. Each of these prior two identified incidents to the actual Hoffman Report caused me concern and I considered resignation each time. The Hoffman Report findings now seem to represent an exacerbation of, continuance of, and underscore a common theme among the membership dues and Raymond B. Cattell Lifetime Achievement Award fiascos. Again, I recommend that the APA dissolve as an organization as soon as possible. As an organization the APA does appear to have operationally shown a relatively low level of; intuition; empathy; and adequate judgement on many important behaviors spanning decades.
