Last Spring, in March 2020 this Author predicted an eventual economic depression for the US. The US is indeed is still headed for an economic depression. Maybe not as bad as the Great Depression but certainly worse than The (so called) Great Recession.
The lack of focus in tackling COVID-19 is the primary reason. For example, at the Ashtabula Towne Square Mall about 40% of all people by my count either do not wear a mask or if they wear it do not wear it properly (e.g., nose not covered). The vaccine is not being distributed quickly. Places such as gyms, health centers, bars, and airports are utilized at a high rate.
COVID 19 has variants. The medium and long term effects are apparently unknown.
We do know that in about the past 20 years the two worst Presidents in terms of judgement have been elected (Bush and Trump). If the US continues electing such poor leaders the economy and society at large will continue to suffer. Lobbying is a cause of poor decision making. The US stands alone in being an advanced Country without universal healthcare. As such, it helps few at the expense of many.
But many are needed for the US (and the World) to thrive.
